Ecostars program, funded by the European Commission, encourages the use of clean-fuel vehicles with lower emissions and exemplary operations in transport to achieve savings in fuel consumption, and promotes the audit and certification of goods and passengers carriers. Arias Cañete said that the certification recognizes leadership in environmental management, which “not only contributes to the Group’s results, but also serves as an example to other companies, customers and suppliers, promoting sustainability throughout the value chain of the sector.”
To break the barriers faced by today’s massive adoption of clean fuels, the official argued: “The public authorities must act, and we are capable of that, establishing a stable regulatory framework that includes not only mandatory targets for reducing CO2 emissions in transport but also support the implementation of the necessary infrastructure. Establishing stimulus policies for cleaner vehicles will be also an important issue. The production of those vehicles means the opportunity to develop a transportation industry capable of meeting the demands of the 21st century “.
