The Plenary of the House of Representatives has approved a proposal of the People’s Party to ask the Government to develop a National Plan for the implementation of natural gas in transportation as an alternative to petroleum that includes investments from the industry players and Spanish autonomous communities.
The initiative was not only won supported by the People’s Party but also by CiU, PNV, Foro Asturias (FAC), Unión del Pueblo Navarro (UPN) and Canarias Coalition (CC), while it was rejected by the Plural Left (IU-ICV-CHA) and abstention from PSOE, UPyD, Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG), Amaiur, Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC), Compromís-Equo, New Canarias (NC) and Geroa Bai.
On behalf People’s Party, Miquel Ramis said his initiative wants the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving to prepare a report on the technical feasibility and economic viability of the implementation of vehicles running on natural gas and LPG, from which prepare a national automotive plan that allows to “diversify the national energy grid, increase the economy competitiveness and help reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.”
In addition, the official explained that with this plan the country’s energy dependency could be reduced, a mix that is based 77% on fossil fuels, 75% of which are imported, reported online newspaper Lainformacion.com.
