Main contributor to the rising number of NGVs in the country is the Czech Post, which has put in its fleet 420 Fiat Doblò and Fiat Ducato vans for post delivery and some 40 VW Passat Ecofuel for management. Making the switch from diesel to CNG these vehicles represent the first wave of fleet conversion conducted by the Czech Post, with a total of more than 5,000 vehicles in its fleet. However, this transformation was introduced late November 2012 and does not contribute significantly to the increased CNG sales yet, which is even more encouraging as yet better results can be expected for 2013.
As for now, biomethane is not playing an important role at Czech CNG stations; in fact natural gas as a fuel is only available from fossil sources. This is due to a lack of legislation encouraging producers of biogas to upgrade to biomethane.
The Czech gas market is currently not supplied with LNG although interest from transportation companies is expected to realize the build-up of L-CNG stations in the years to come.
