With 11 meters long and capable of carrying 80 passengers, the city’s first natural gas bus was presented last Friday by the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa, which also announced that the vehicle is the prototype that will serve the future city’s SIT.
The initiative, supported by the Municipality and the companies Peruana de Gas Natural (PGN), NEOGás and Gildemeister (Hyundai dealership in Peru), aims to improve the urban mobility system of the region through a cleaner, faster and more efficient transport.
“It is feasible to use natural gas as fuel in Arequipa, despite the altitude. We have developed a method that could fuel buses. We are working along with the natural gas transport company NEOGás, which brought a container truck,” said Jorge Rabines, PGN’s marketing manager.
