Uruguay is considering to enable the use of natural gas for vehicles in order to increase its consumption, because if the installation of the regasification plant is finally completed, there will have up to five million m3 of fuel (a figure above the estimated consumption peak of three million).
“We have been working daily with them to move on with the negotiations and finally organize how the business model is going to work. The idea is to have it by early 2011 because we think we’ll finish it by spring of next year,” Mendez stated on a local radio regarding the bidding of the regasification plant.
He also said that the Uruguayan government’s plans involve the expansion of the use of natural gas to other sectors such as vehicles. “We want to maximize the penetration of natural gas in the energy grid and we will absolutely consider all possibilities. CNG is indeed a viable option and we will do everything possible to make it,” highlighted Mendez.
