The district already has eight CNG buses and Leon County Superintendent of Schools Jackie Pons said they will transition 44 buses to natural gas by the time the station opens, hoping to switch the entire fleet within five to 10 years. “It will save the district millions of dollars over time – money we can reinvest in the classrooms,” said Pons.
Furthermore, Nopetro’s CEO Jorge Herrera said the station also will serve private customers, offering both CNG and LNG, and that his company is interested in forging similar partnerships with other school districts and local government bodies around the state. “We are meeting with companies in the area that have their own truck fleets to let them know a natural gas fuelling option will be available soon,” Herrera said.
