The natural gas project is partially funded by a grant to UBCR through the Michigan Clean Cities Coalition and when complete, will displace 380,000 gallons of diesel fuel annually with domestically produced low carbon natural gas. In turn, UBCR’s CNG fleet, expected to be delivered in December 2011, will support Michigan Beverage Association’s Third Party Recycling Program.
In addition, the beverage container recycler is working with DTE Energy to construct CNG fuelling stations in Wixom and Grand Rapids. The Grand Rapids fuelling location will be public-access, while the Wixom location will be a dedicated station to support UBCR’s around-the-clock fleet operations.
