“There’s been a lot of talk about promoting the use of compressed natural gas for fuel. We buy several new vehicles each year, so we thought we’d buy two that could be converted into natural gas,” said CPW’s general manager Nick Stegall, as reported by GreenvilleOnline.com.
While CPW is looking to convert its diesel-powered fleet of more than 115 vehicles to natural gas, Greer’s government also expects to switch 15 percent of the city’s fleet to operate with CNG by 2020, a goal that is part of several “green” initiatives in the city’s comprehensive plan.
According to Stegall, Greer CPW’s fleet conversion depends “heavily on securing grant money and public partnerships”. Moreover, the commission is also working to obtain USD 300,000 in grants to upgrade its “slow-fill” station to a “fast-fill” station so the public can access the gaseous fuel.
