The new inter-urban public transport service network of the TIB (Mallorca transport operator), which will be operational in autumn 2020, will have a fully renovated fleet and non-polluting vehicles. Of the 220 new buses, 216 will run on alternative fuels to diesel, which represents 98% of the entire fleet. Of these vehicles, 198 will operate with natural gas and 18 with electric propulsion (nine electric and nine hybrid-electric).
The refueling of the new CNG buses will be done at new filling stations that will be in the depots of the new concessions located in the Can na Lloreta de Alcúdia Polygon, the Inca Polygon, the Tapia de Palma Polygon, in the municipality of Calvià and the industrial estates of Felanitx and Artà.
The new TIB buses will increase their capacity from 12-meter vehicles to 15-meter and 18-meter vehicles on the busiest lines. They will also be better adapted to improve access for people with reduced mobility, 68.6% of the new fleet will be low-floor buses at both the first and second doors.
In addition, the internal signaling with screens and public address system will be upgraded, thus people with visual or hearing disabilities can be informed of the next stops during the trip and of the relevant information of the service.
This is an extremely positive moment for natural gas and the transition to more sustainable means of transport in Spain. In this encouraging scenario for the region, AltFuels Iberia 2020 will take place on 5-9 October at IFEMA Trade Fair Center in Madrid. The event will consist of high-level conferences and exhibition led by national and international experts and companies who will share their experiences and knowledge with visitors and showcase the latest in clean energy technologies.
