The 43.2% of the Barcelona’s public transport fleet, which gathers 1,064 vehicles in total, consists of clean-fuel buses, such as compressed natural gas fueled units and hybrids. Specifically, CNG-powered vehicles reduce nitrogen oxides emissions by 90% and carbon monoxide emissions by 85%, and decrease vehicle noise emission, the news agency EFE reported.
“Barcelona will have the cleanest fleet around Europe. It is not clever to stay thinking that these vehicles are the best without proving them, so it is essential that we pollute less every day,” the City Mayor said proudly. The leader stressed that “it is not true that in a crisis situation we are not able to improve things,” as he appreciated the efforts made by TMB for the renewal of its fleet.
In turn, Joaquim Forn stated that TMB reaffirmed its commitment to “protect the environment and to be proactive in promoting clean energy options.” He added that, despite the economic instability, “TMB will remain as a badge of quality, innovation, dedication to service and protection of the environment.”
