Through a district decree of August 12, 2019, the district administration has exempted smart taxis with exclusively electric or CNG dedicated propulsion from the ‘Pico and Placa’ restriction, with the aim of encouraging sustainable mobility in Bogotá. This control is a driving restriction policy aimed to mitigate traffic congestion in urban areas during peak hours.
“With this decision we want to encourage the transition to a taxi service that uses technology platforms and environmentally sustainable energies. Making this announcement in the month of the taxi driver gives us more reasons to continue improving the quality of service in the city, which has been the purpose of the administration of Mayor Enrique Peñalosa from the beginning,” said the Mobility District Secretary, Juan Pablo Bocarejo .
For a taxi to be exempted from the ‘Pico y Placa’ restriction, which operates from Monday to Saturday between 5:30 am and 9:00 pm, depending on the last digit of the license plate, it must be registered in the Automotive District Registry (RDA) with a CNG dedicated engine or with exclusively electric propulsion.
On the other hand, it must have implemented the technology platform(s) in accordance with the provisions of District Decrees 456 and 568 of 2017. According to this, the use of technology platforms has a positive impact on the urban mobility because they seek routes that contribute to reduce the travel time of all users of road networks. In addition, the car must be registered in the Driver Information and Registration System (SIRC) with a technology platform charging method.
With this exception measure, the number of individual public service vehicles in the city equipped with technological platforms and driven by clean technologies is expected to increase in the future. The reduction of the negative externalities generated by each taxi in operation will bring a global effect such as a general reduction in congestion, pollution and accident rate, improving the current scenario.
