The ethanol-powered car spent an average of R$ 0.185/km, while the gasoline fueled car R$ 0.199/km and the NGV R$ 0.109 km. Comparatively, CNG showed a fuel economy of 45% compared to gasoline and 41% compared to ethanol.
The three cars involved in the rally had the same characteristics: engine 1.8, automatic transmissions and similar mileage; all were driven under the same traffic conditions.
The event was jointly organized by Comgás and the Autonomous Taxi Drivers Union of São Paulo, with the support of the Brazilian Association of Gas Distribution Companies and the Brazilian Petroleum Institute (IBP).
Ricardo Vallejo, NGV Marketing coordinator at Comgás highlighted the advantages of CNG at the end of the test: “Natural gas is safe, it cannot be adulterated, investment returns quickly and the system can be exploited in the change of vehicle. It is the cleanest fuel, which has the lowest maintenance costs.”
