E-CL general manager Lodewijk Verdeyen said that “as a company we have a special focus on innovation and sustainability, contributing to the local communities where we operate. We want to do things right, using the knowledge available in market and, at the same time, offering sustainable added value. Tocopilla is a major city for us and we want to contribute with initiatives such as ‘Essential Natural Gas,’ delivering real improvements to inhabitants’ quality of life.”
Drivers who already have their cars running on CNG have been able to note a reduction in costs and an improvement in engine performance. “E-CL’s project is quite good, mainly because it is an economy that we needed and I think this will be even more noticeable in the near future. We want100% of our colleague to convert their vehicles, since it is a contribution the environment and also because it is more economically convenient,” said Luis Armando Villalobos, Tocopilla’s Route No. 1 taxi driver.
For the development of the GNE initiative, a CNG refueling station has been built in that Chilean city. The natural gas from Mejillones is transported through the pipeline to the pumps.
