Under the Adopt an Eco-Jeepney Program, vehicles running on diesel will be fitted with CNG engines, states the agreement that seeks to combat the increasing cost of petroleum.
According to Philippines’ DoE, this program will enable the country to avoid oil price volatility by using a domestic fuel. Furthermore, the country is closely watching events unfold in the Middle East as uprisings have escalated in sensitive areas that have driven a few spikes in local pump prices.
It is worth mentioning that the country’s first foray toward the utilization of CNG was through the Natural Gas Vehicle Program for Public Transport (NGVPPT) of the government. It was a project aimed to partially liberate the country from unstable world crude prices and reduce carbon emissions in support of the Clean Air Act (RA 8749).
