In partnership, the beverage company and vehicle manufacturer took an important step toward the adoption of CNG powered heavy duty transportation with the test of an Iveco Tector 170E20 used to deliver products of the Coca-Cola bottler.
Engine technology developed by FPT Industrial reduces pollutant emissions (NOx, particulates and CO2) while providing savings in operation costs, since the truck has a driving range of up to 300 km. The tests are part of a project carried out by Iveco since 2011 together with different companies; vehicles deployed include two light duty Daily, two 17-ton Tector, designed for waste collection, a CNG bus and another Tector powered by biomethane.
The Coca-Cola FEMSA Brazil’s truck hit the roads during the Confederations Cup in 2013, with the beverage delivery to Mineirão, in Belo Horizonte. After this competition, the vehicle was used in other areas of the city and returned to supply the stadium during the World Cup Brazil 2014.
“For Coca-Cola FEMSA Brazil, it is very gratifying to have the opportunity to participate and contribute with the tests of such trucks that produce fewer greenhouse gases while consuming less fuel. The company is always open to new perspectives that seek to improve processes, people and their environment’s care,” said Antônio Augusto Matos Victor, director of operations at Coca-Cola FEMSA Brazil.
