The Scirocco R-Cup features innovative technological and sporting concepts. Pure bio natural gas which, on balance, reduces the Cup’s overall CO2 emissions by 80 per cent is used as fuel. A push-to-pass system enabling a power boost of 34 kW (50 hp) that is limited in terms of its duration and the number of times it may be used complements the diversity.
“At the Norisring we’ll again have an exquisite field with big names starting from the grid,” says Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. “With legends from all circuit racing categories and from rally sport, we’ve got entrants covering the full gamut of racing disciplines. The direct competition between them will be exciting to watch. So it’s exactly the right thing for the season highlight and our only city street race of the year.”

Today, Surer is primarily known to German Formula 1 fans as co-commentator and Formula 1 expert on the TV channel Sky Deutschland. Bertram Schäfer is the identification figure of the German Formula 3 scene. Since 1975 the driver from Bitburg has served on the board of the Formula 3 association which stands for the organization of the Formula 3 Cup.
