This announcement includes grants totaling 271,000 euros and will allocate a maximum of 1,000 euros per taxi purchased. To receive this benefit, vehicles must not exceed 80 mg/km of oxides of nitrogen or 160 gr/km of carbon dioxide.
Among other companies that have also joined the city’s initiative and that will complement the municipal subsidies, Gas Natural will promote sustainable mobility in the taxi business by paying the supply of the first 1,000 euros of compressed natural gas refueled at its filling stations.
In the last four years, Madrid along with the efforts of taxi drivers and some automobile and fuel companies achieved a significant renewal of taxis: the option of environmentally friendly vehicles increased from less than 10% to 50%, allowing that 16% of existing 15,709 taxis (1,461 vehicles) already run on alternative and cleaner fuels.
