ACT Abfall Container Transport, a subsidiary of German environmental services company Alba Group, was in charge of running the trial, transporting waste paper from Berlin to a recycling facility in the town of Schwedt in northeastern Germany. The truck is the first vehicle with a payload capacity of 40 tons that is operated in Berlin, setting new standards in reducing emissions and noise pollution for a vehicle with a powerful 460 hp engine.
All partners are awaiting the results of the trial run in the hope that it will further support arguments for the accelerated and widespread use of LNG in the German transportation sector. The fuel used for the truck trial is being delivered by Erdgas Mobil and Gazprom Germania through a mobile fueling station at the Volvo Truck Center Berlin.
The truck can cover distances of up to 1,000 km, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 70% compared to traditional diesel-fueled trucks. Thanks to its dual-fuel-technology, the vehicle can traverse a regional or long haul route on up to 75% gas and 25% diesel. The engine can also be run on diesel fuel alone.
