According to K Sridharan, chief financial officer of Ashok Leyland, its LCV product ‘Dost’ will be also available in a 5 ton range and will include a CNG option. This launch will take place before the new green field facility at Pillaipakkam, near Chennai, is completed, by 2016, reported Business Standard.
It is worth mentioning that the Indian company entered the LCV segment in 2011 due to its joint venture Ashok Leyland Nissan Vehicles, where it holds 51% stake. The first product was launched in September 2011 and was branded as ‘Dost’.
“Acceptability of our product has been good, overall demand projection we are talking about next year is over 55,000 units, which we should be able to achieve,” added Sridharan.
