“We are working on CNG units. We have already launched five vehicles on this platform and eventually plan to offer all our models on a CNG platform,” said Alok Jaitley, Maruti Suzuki’s general manager of homologation-environment planning at the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ conference in Ahmedabad.
As reported by Business Standard, the CNG variants already comprise nearly 10 percent of the sales of five Maruti models, the Alto, the Wagon R, the Estilo, the Eeco and the SX4, which the company had launched last year. Currently, these versions are available in Delhi, National Capital Region, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
“Gujarat is one of the major markets for our natural gas vehicles,” said I V Rao, Maruti’s managing executive officer-engineering. However, the Indian OEM plans to offer NGVs in other states as the network of CNG stations expands.
