As part of the initiative, the Ministry of Transport is preparing the import requirements, including the necessary infrastructure, maintenance, and safety measures. When the trial is completed and conclusions have been drawn, regular imports of CNG trucks and cars will be permitted, reported local newspaper Yediot Ahronot.
Moreover, Delek Gas, subsidiary of Delek Group Ltd., is urging the use of natural gas for transportation and plans to develop a national refueling network. Along with the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, it will build the first CNG station at the company’s site in Ashdod. Besides, six additional fueling facilities are planned nationwide by the end of 2014.
It is worth recalling that earlier this year Israel Government approved a scheme to start the transition to an alternative fuel based public transport. The program will be focused on natural gas initially.
