Deputy Mayor of Almaty Murat Kudyshev said the upgrading of the bus fleet through the introduction of low-floor CNG buses that meet Euro IV-VI standards will have positive environmental and social impacts. “The project will contribute to improving air quality in Almaty, will reduce passenger congestion and improve overall quality and efficiency of urban transportation”, he added.
In turn, head of AET Talgat Abdrakhmanov highlighted: “The purchase of 200 CNG buses with Euro IV standards will give a boost to the quality of urban transport in the city. While the first stage involves USD $35.2 million to improve bus fleet in Almaty, the entire EBRD investment aims to reform local public transport helping the municipality to improve sector’s regulatory framework, to develop high capacity light rail transport mode and to introduce integrated electronic ticketing system.
