After testing a vehicle from Scania Argentina’s Demo fleet, Lomex SA, a transportation company based in the province of Tucumán, acquired two natural gas trucks from the Green Efficiency line for its long-distance operations. Among the main reasons for the purchase were fuel cost savings and low environmental impact. The two new units are Scania R 410, with 4×2 axle configuration and comply with Euro 6 emission standards.
“The savings with natural gas is in the order of 40% compared to diesel. In a year, that is close to 20,000 dollars per truck, including the catalytic reducing additive –since natural gas vehicles do not require its use,” explained the president of the company, Martín Sundblad, which provides services of foreign trade and logistics.
“The CNG truck implies a commitment to the future in a sustainable way and also more profitability in line with the environment,” added Sundblad. For this reason, he anticipated that the company’s project is to create a fleet powered mainly by natural gas as other vehicles are renewed.
Another aspect that he considered relevant in relation to protecting the planet was the low noise level of the Green Efficiency natural gas engines. In this regard, Darío Ruiz, the Lomex driver who was in charge of driving the tested vehicle, said: “The experience of being loaded in a winding area surprised me, the engine is very quiet, the box relations are excellent, and the Scania Retarder brake is very good!,” he highlighted.
The truck that encouraged the subsequent acquisitions in Lomex, which moves general cargo, beverages and fruits, mainly between Buenos Aires, Cuyo, Corrientes and the Argentine Northwest, was used for 15 days, in which it made two journeys between San Pedro de Jujuy and the city of Buenos Aires. In total, it traveled more than 6,000 kilometers through winding and plains routes.
“It is time to make environmental decisions and seek a path of change. They are small things that one can offer to society, and that is the most valuable thing about this first experience with Scania,” concluded Sundblad.
Demo Trucks is Scania Argentina’s program designed for transporters to see, first-hand, the benefits of the brand’s New Generation of trucks. It includes a fleet of 26 vehicles with different configurations, which are loaned to clients or potential clients to be used in their daily operations. On the other hand, the units of the Green Efficiency line are designed to work exclusively with alternative fuels, including CNG, LNG and biogas.
