While still remaining about two months to the launch of the new system, the winners of the tender process to supply the 80 CNG buses will be unveiled in the coming days. Among the manufacturers that may be awarded are Dina, Volvo and Mercedes Benz. As reported by local media ElNorte.com, the first one mentioned has more chances to win the contract to deliver the vehicles.
A few days ago, Claudia Gutiérrez, director of sustainable transport for Dina, told newspaper Reforma: “We hope that next week [this one] the result of the tender will be released and even if we do not win it we will be satisfied as it was a very transparent process.”
Latin America has become one of the most important markets for the implementation of these clean-fuel rapid transit systems featuring composed of natural gas powered fleets, just like Metroplús of Medellin (Colombia) and Metropolitano in Lima (Peru). In Mexico, public transport NGVs are already on the road in both Jalisco and Mexico City. It is worth mentioning that the Federal District was Mexico’s first city to adopt natural gas buses.
