Chairwoman of the RTP Ariadna Montiel Reyes explained that the new natural gas driven buses are the first of its kind at the country. Therefore, local government stands at the forefront of the public transport fleet innovation.
The units, which were presented on November 16th, 2010, will reduce the particles of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons, have a vehicle exhaust system that does not release combustion emissions into the atmosphere and reduce the levels of noise pollution.
This initiative responds to public demand for urban mobility, improves passengers’ image of transport system in Mexico City and discourages private car use.
