The vehicles, which will be operated by Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), will be put into operation this month, said Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah yesterday. This initiative will be followed by a mass transit program to offer an improved service to Karachi citizens. The announcement took place during a meeting to address Inter and Intra Cities Bus Project for the country’s capital city.
Keeping in view the Sindh Government has conceived a program focused on a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system for Karachi, he said that three major corridors including yellow line, green line and red line have been identified for this scheme. Besides, other transportation programs to bring more KMC buses on the road and to launch Inter Cities transportation have also been taken into account.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah commented that Sindh has invested Rs 40 million (US$670,000) in the upgrading of the 36 CNG buses. Moreover, he said that the reconditioning of other 35 CNG buses was in progress and to be inducted in this lot within two months.
The 36 buses will operate on the route from Tower to Quid-Abad through Shahrah-e-Faisal.
