According to Autogás, the company in charge of the trial, the pilot program is expected to cost around 450,000 meticals (USD 15,000). For this initiative, they have an exclusive agreement with Mozambican government.
Savings from using CNG may be “approximately 63 percent, as compressed natural gas is 17.75 meticals (0.59 cents) per the liter and gasoline is 47.72 meticals (1.59 cents),” the company said to local newspaper Macauhub. “Despite knowing that savings are big, when using natural gas, we still lack examples with exact figures to confirm the impact in detail.”
Founded in 2008, Autogás has a “natural gas powered fleet of vehicles of over 1,000 customers in Maputo and Matola,” and has five CNG stations in the region.
