The city of Murcia has launched a new urban waste collection fleet. The Mayor José Antonio Serrano and the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Street Cleaning Carmen Fructuoso presented these vehicles, including 19 Euro 6 NGVs, which join other new units that were added in June, aimed at street cleaning in the municipality.
“We thus achieve an effective and efficient service that puts citizens at the center, focused on achieving a better quality of life with the greatest respect for the environment of our surroundings, in continuous progress towards sustainability,” said Mayor Serrano.
The new waste collection fleet has 63 vehicles, of which 30% are powered by natural gas with an ECO environmental category (DGT). These are state-of-the-art container collection trucks, quieter and more respectful with the environment, thus achieving a reduction of polluting and acoustic emissions and a lower carbon footprint.
This renovation becomes a decisive commitment by the Government team to favor the mechanization and modernization of the city’s waste collection and cleaning fleet in order to make Murcia more sustainable. “The collaboration between the City Council and the concessionaire company allows us to consolidate our commitment and effort in the continuous improvement of waste collection and environment, thus combining effective and sustainable waste management,” added Serrano.
