The measure is part of the investment policy of the company, which consist of the replacement of the bus fleet with the acquisition of a total of 123 new vehicles running on both CNG and natural gas-electric, in order to comply with Madrid’s 2011-2015 Air Quality Plan. These units are meant to replace the biodiesel-powered buses, which have been operational for over a decade.
In particular, 25 million will be allocated to the acquisition of 81 buses on lease for 12 years. For this purpose, once a framework agreement with one or more financing organizations is signed, there will be individual agreements signed for each vehicle. The remaining 42 buses planned for 2012 will be acquired with the company own funds.
Overall, the City has approximately 1,000 vehicles powered by compressed natural gas on the road, among which 418 are waste collection trucks and 574 are EMT’s buses.
