“It is a profitable route with a positive social impact. The transportation reform in Lima requires the integration of systems,” argued Fernández, according to an article published by La República newspaper. It is expected that the implementation of the new service will help thousands of passengers take advantage of a modern and eco-friendly transportation.
The connections between bus and train services will be replicated in the future, since there are plans to link the 16 stations of the Lima Metro’s Line 1 with Metropolitano’s 19 stations through feeder buses. “The Metro needs feeder buses and we are working on that. The connection will optimize the use of the train, especially when we have put into service five new trains,” said Carlos Paredes, Minister of Transport and Communications of Peru.
The connection between Metropolitano and Lima Metro services will benefit more than one million passengers per day, according to Protransporte. Within three years, there will be a sole mean of payment for thousands of people to use both transport systems.
