In order to standardize the fleet that enters the public transport service, as a result of the renewal process of the fleet with environmentally-friendly vehicles, the Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU) pre-published the Standard CNG and Diesel Bus Project.
Through resolution No. 009-2021-ATU/DIR, published on the official newspaper El Peruano, the technical specifications are established regarding the bodywork, fuel, type of engine, technology, safety, accessibility and passenger comfort. The CNG and diesel standard bus has different features to adapt to both the needs of travel demand and the geography of the city. They can be articulated buses of 9, 12 and 18 meters, or bi-articulated buses of 27 meters with a capacity of between 40 and 250 passengers.
The standard CNG bus is expected to have a minimum range of 250 km per hour. A relevant point of the project is the look towards a sustainable change that contributes to protecting the environment. Therefore, the incorporation of vehicles for public transport must comply with the Euro V and VI regulations.
The ATU indicated that it is working towards an important change in the public transport service by offering a safe, comfortable and universally accessible service. At the same time, it promotes the addition of clean technologies in order to achieve an integrated and environmentally-friendly public transport system, and thus have a quality service for the benefit of citizens.
Moreover, as part of its inclusive policies, these vehicles will have ramps and platforms with elevators to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility. They will also have inside Wi-Fi, cell phone chargers, ventilation system, air conditioning, a rack for bicycles in the front, among other technical features.
For 20 days, manufacturers, transport operators, public and private entities, as well as citizens will be able to make suggestions and contributions on the project presented.
