According to P Narayana Swamy, executive director of the Greater Hyderabad area, 1,540 new CNG buses had been ordered with 1,392 buses already authorized. “Vehicles sanctioned under the program JNNURM will have fast pickup, comfortable seating pattern, more leg space, fashionable look and digital destination boards,” he detailed.
Furthermore, the city of Hyderabad is planning to build 20 bus depots and 152 bus stations. “To build the bus depots, APSRTC officials had acquired land with assistance of the Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA) and construction works had been initiated,” added Swamy.
Last June and also under national JNNURM project, 145 CNG feeder buses were acquired for Ahmedabad bus rapid transport system. The first 20 buses started running three months ago while in every subsequent week 20 more units have been being added to the scheme.
