The rally, launched last week, also stopped in Helsinki after a 400 kilometer drive from St. Petersburg. The arrival of the fleet in Finland’s capital city took place at a refueling station belonging to Gasum Oy. “The Blue Corridor addresses the only threat facing NGVs: consumers and policy-makers lack information regarding the benefits of gas as a fuel,” said Jussi Vainikka, Head of Business Unit, CNG, Gasum Oy.
“Natural gas is a cost-effective, environmental friendly alternative, and people should know they can choose that option. The ship used to travel from Turku to Stockholm will also help demonstrate the key role LNG can play for transportation in the Baltic Sea,” added Vainikka.
Finland is an emerging market for natural gas vehicles, with 1.300 units registered so far. In June 2013, CNG prices in Finland were about 30 percent lower than gasoline and diesel.
