This new Scania truck belongs to the P series, has a 9-liter 280HP engine that offers a maximum torque of 1,350 Nm and is propelled by compressed natural gas. This vehicle, from the Scania XT range designed for the toughest jobs, is the first natural gas vehicle in Contenedores MAI’s fleet, which already has 15 Scania vehicles. In addition, it is the first skip loader truck powered by alternative fuel that is working in the city of Madrid.
“It is a vehicle that I have always liked. Since I tested it, I convinced myself that it was a very good vehicle for me and it gives me confidence. And, with so many years dedicated to recycling, we are aware that we have to bet on natural gas vehicles,” said Mariano Andradas, General Director of Contenedores MAI.

“This Scania truck is going to be operating in the city of Madrid, collecting containers in construction works and taking them to the authorized manager of waste recycling, our recycling plant in Vicálvaro. It is the first NGV of our fleet and all those that come from now on, will be too. Urban mobility regulations are changing and we are clear that new acquisitions should target alternative fuels,” added Andradas.
The increased concern about air quality has resulted in traffic restrictions in many European cities. Therefore, gas-powered vehicles represent a sustainable alternative for the construction sector and urban transport. To analyze this scenario and evaluate the latest in alternative fuel technologies for clean mobility, AltFuels Iberia 2020 will be held on 5-9 October at IFEMA Trade Fair Center in Madrid.
