Given the good result obtained from the first vehicles operation and also following the European Union policies, Tussam decided to make a firm commitment to increase the bus fleet on methane. As a result, they built a fast-fill station on its premises, which allows refueling a vehicle in less than three minutes, and promoted the massive acquisition of CNG buses.
These initiatives have turned Tussam in the company with the largest percentage of CNG-powered buses in Spain. NGVs represent 40% of its total fleet and 61% of all standard-size vehicles owned by the company. Moreover, the mass transit operator announced on its website that there are plans to expand its fleet adding 30 natural gas units in 2013.
For the implementation of this comprehensive project, the City of Seville has significantly invested money in this clean-fuel initiative with the help of grants awarded by the Andalusian Energy Agency.
