The mayor of Chiclana José María Román presented the first minibus fueled by the biogas generated at the WWTP of Torno, through the All Gas project. This renewable fuel has already been experienced in the fleet of the municipal company Chiclana Natural. In addition to the city council and the utility company, the initiative includes the collaboration of Aqualia (which leads All Gas), Belizón and Rodríguez (public transport operator), IVECO and FERQUI (responsible for the manufacture of the bus).
“In 2010 we started a project like All Gas, financed with European funds, which seemed like a dream, since we wanted to close the circle of household wastewater in energy to obtain biofuel for vehicles. Little by little, the dream has come true, breaking the mold of the wastewater treatment system, since we have been able to obtain this biogas,” said Román. “We have a fleet of seven biogas vehicles, besides this new microbus that represents an important leap. Chiclana can become a model for many municipalities in the production of biogas.”
This first microbos powered by biogas is an IVECO with a DAILY 70C14 CNG chassis with Euro IV 140 HP engine, 7.25 meters long and with a CNG capacity distributed in several cylinders that reach the 250 liters, which gives a proven range of more than 300 kilometers and up to eight and a half hours of work in urban circuits.
The bodybuilder FERQUI has incorporated its great experience in microbuses to adapt this new version to natural gas. “It is a normal body to accommodate a total of 24 seats, as well as a guide and driver, with the possibility of eight wheelchairs thanks to the built-in access ramp. Only a series of modifications have been made to the chassis to adapt it to the tanks,” commented José Carlos Mora, representative of FERQUI.
With this acquisition, there are already eight vehicles that run on biogas supplied experimentally by the All Gas project. In addition to this minibus, there are three vehicles that perform municipal tasks and four cars that Aqualia uses for fuel tests.
Biogas is a clean and renewable energy and will be one of the many topics to be addressed at AltFuels Iberia 2019, taking place on 11-14 June at IFEMA Trade Fair Center, in Madrid. It will be an event consisting of first level conferences and exhibition of vehicles of all kinds, refueling stations, components, plants, road and marine engines, as well as the entire universe of the alternative fuels industry with the latest technological developments, multiple options for networking, business and new advances.
