Overall, 17 buses will be rolled out during the event, all of them powered by different fuel solutions, in order to lower the environmental impact of international delegations journeys from and to the diverse conference venues.
“The launch of this fleet is the result of a joint effort that took two years to be presented. This is a victory for our state. It is an alternative fuel that meets requirements for the development of an even greater life quality among citizens. Various other technologies are being carried out in this regard. We are confident that, in the short term, Rio will have a bus fleet fully driven by clean fuels,” Transportation Secretary Julio Lopes pointed out.
The development of the flex-fuel CNG + diesel bus is part of the Rio’s Sustainable Transport Program, which is aimed to provide the capital city of the state of Rio de Janeiro with a more efficient and sustainable transport for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.
