Furthermore, Waste Management is deploying the first natural gas garbage trucks in Northwest Florida, and its Okaloosa County site, in Fort Walton Beach, is currently being developed to become one of its newest CNG fueling stations. There should be 30 of the new vehicles serving Okaloosa by the end of 2013, reducing emissions by an average of 8,000 gallons a year per vehicle.
It is worth mentioning that Senator Wilton Simpson (R-Trilby) and Rep. Lake Ray (R- Jacksonville) recently filed Senate Bill 560 and House Bill 579, the Florida Natural Gas Vehicle Act. The legislation is intended to “jump start the use of natural gas motor fuel in Florida and maximize its benefit through the implementation of a progressive tax structure and clearly outlined incentives,” said Simpson.
