“Having CNG-powered buses will help Green Park, as well as the rest of Reading, stay green,” said James Freeman, chief executive of Reading Buses. “We are changing the face of riding buses and this new fleet takes us to the next level, which we are very proud of.”
The buses are ultra green – they have no particulates (soot), no hydrocarbons and virtually no carbon coming from the back end. They will also dramatically reduce the amount of NOx into the atmosphere.
Besides the ‘greenwave,’ Reading Buses will introduce other NGVs on red route 9 to Shinfield Park and bronze 11 to Coley Park in the coming weeks. The operator has ordered a total of 20 Scania eco-friendly units and expects that when delivery is completed they will have the largest fleet of natural gas buses in the UK.
