“We are very excited to introduce CNG taxicabs to the Chicago area,” said Garret Alpers, President of World CNG, and also added that these NGVs represent the first steps toward wide use of the gaseous fuel in Chicago’s taxis. “Hopefully, the benefits of using CNG fuel will inspire other local fleets to make the move to natural gas as well.”
The taxicabs are 2010 model year Chevrolet Impalas, which use the 3.5L engine and World CNG’s two-tank, 11 GGE configuration. The World CNG Impala is also available in a new three-tank, 13.6 GGE version as well.
The new fleet, built at World CNG’s facility and shipped to Yellow Cab Chicago in late July 2011, will refuel at the two Clean Energy’s CNG fuelling stations that serve Chicago area: one at the intersection of Jefferson and West Grenshaw and the other at the intersection of Belmont and Clybourne.
