The municipality has a total of 80 vehicles for street cleaning and solid waste collection. The mayor, along with the Councilor for Environment, Monica Garcia Molina, drove one of these garbage trucks and also took the opportunity to learn about the latest improvements achieved by the City at these facilities, distinguished due to their environmentally friendly nature.
Some of the upgrading includes the new water recirculation system with vapor technique for washing vehicles which allows reusing all the water and optimizing consumption. Moreover, the installation of a lighting network with energy-efficient lamps has allowed savings in energy costs and increased the lifespan of these lights by 50%.
Pozuelo de Alarcón, an upper-class suburb near the city of Madrid, began implementation of alternative fuel vehicles four years ago and its refuse fleet includes Iveco Stralis natural gas-powered trucks.
