“It is necessary to give some time for investors to progress in building up the infrastructure and to overcome the current limitations,” Guerra said, admitting that the current government has not yet defined the guidelines regarding natural gas development, but stressed that the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) continues to offer all the support the investors need.
According to his speech, there are more than 9,000 vehicles converted to natural gas running throughout the country, all of them certified by the MIC, and there are 46 authorized conversion centers. “Several companies are testing the technology to finally convert their fleets, which will be great for saving,” he stated.
The program for the implementation of the widespread use of natural gas for vehicles was announced in May 2011 by the former president Fernández and was aimed at the conversion of vehicles and the construction of at least 40 refueling stations across four corridors covering routes from Santo Domingo to the East, North, South and West regions.
