In addition to the refueling stations, EPM has partnered with Autofrancia, Eurogas Gasexpress, Suragas and Gasinyección conversion centers, where users can request the CNG installation, maintenance service, the safety annual recertification and the five-year recertification. According to estimations, 8% of Medellín’s vehicles operates on natural gas.
Currently, there is an EPM refueling station under construction located in front of the University of Medellín, in the area of Belén, which will exclusively serve the Metroplús BRT system. Furthermore, with the arrival of the 50 natural gas dedicated waste collection vehicles in June for Emvarias service, an exclusive filling station will also be built to supply trucks with the fuel.
The company currently provides with natural gas to fleets from UNE, ESU, Emprestur, Emvarias and Metroplús, serving a total of 287 CNG dedicated buses.
The objective of EPM in the short and medium term will be to expand the coverage of CNG stations to municipalities of Antioquia and Valle de Aburrá. By 2015, it is expected that the company’s fueling network will total 20 sites.
