The strategies to be implemented within the period 2011-2020 consists of 35 actions, due to which it is expected that greenhouse emissions will be reduced by up to 50% in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara. “The actions are focus on a new state-wide environmental standard in order to control gasoline stations vapours,” said David Parra Romero, managing director of Air Quality from the Ministry of Environment for Sustainable Development (Semades, as in its Spanish acronym).
In addition, the plan will promote non-motorized mobility, which includes the construction of bike lanes, and the reduction of the public transport fleet age is also being considered (currently, vehicles are allowed to be operational up to 12 years).
