Repsol and Nortegas Green Energy Solutions signed an agreement to promote the installation of a network of public natural gas refueling points at Repsol’s service stations. The infrastructure will be installed primarily in the regions where Nortegas operates as a natural gas distributor, that is, in the Basque Country, Cantabria and Asturias.
“Repsol is a company with which we share our firm commitment to finding efficient and eco-friendly energy solutions that are part of a sustainable energy mix. Natural gas for vehicles is an ally in decarbonization: it offers a clean and efficient alternative, both economically and environmentally,” said Nortegas.
For its part, Repsol highlighted: “Nortegas helps us to continue positioning natural gas as an alternative for mobility. Furthermore, Repsol reinforces its position as a multi-energy company, leader in mobility and with the aim of achieving zero net emissions by 2050, being the first company in its sector to adopt this ambitious goal.”
The first of the natural gas stations that Repsol and Nortegas will start up will be located in the town of Sestao (Bizkaia). In this first facility, the companies will make an investment of close to 400,000 euros, supported by the Basque Energy Agency (EVE) through its efficient mobility aid program.
Construction has already started and will have the capacity to meet the demand for light vehicles (passenger cars and vans), as well as medium and heavy urban vehicles (vans and delivery trucks). It will be the first station in the province of Bizkaia to have a continuous supply of CNG, without the need for a deposit, thanks to Nortegas’s extensive infrastructure available.
In addition, Repsol and Nortegas have already agreed on two new locations where pre-construction work will begin immediately, one in Madrid and the other in Gipuzkoa. Currently, Repsol already has five CNG stations distributed on the main Spanish corridors and, soon, it will open three more points in Mérida (Badajoz), Albatera (Alicante) and Hernani (Gipuzkoa).
