These stations are the most recent Shell investment in LNG as a fuel in the Netherlands. In April, the first 100% liquefied natural gas powered barge, which is chartered by Shell and built in the Netherlands, started operations on the Rhine. It is expected that a second ship will be in service later this year. Shell is also a founding and active member of the National LNG Platform in the Netherlands, which brings together company and government authorities and is aimed at establishing standard operating guidelines in order to develop this industry.
In 2012, Shell took over Gasnor, a Norwegian company related to LNG as a transport fuel. It is also noteworthy that Shell and TravelCenters of America have signed an agreement for the development of a LNG filling stations network across the U.S. for customers active in the field of heavy road transport.
