The new fueling point is expected to open by August 30 and will include a convenience store and service centre. Minister of Transport Devant Maharaj attended the sod-turning ceremony in Beetham and said the Government planned to implement a tax credit on CNG kits for private car owners and to remove the importation tax on CNG kits, as incentives.
“The use of compressed natural gas can reduce harmful gas emissions by 35 per cent. There are currently eight CNG stations in the country servicing 3,500 vehicles and within five years 40 new stations will be able to service 50,000 vehicles,” said Antonia Lucky, NP director.
Furthermore, VMCOTT was established to repair and maintain certain government vehicles. According to VMCOTT chairman, Robert Charbonne, his fleet managers had already secured the company Zavoli SRL to supply VMCOTT with the CNG technology, kits, compressors, cylinders, and accessories.
