In March Verbio opened what it said was the world’s first straw-to-biomethane plant and is also building plants that will allow the company to sell its renewable gas as a vehicle fuel. And recently the firm started testing a dual-fuel design on its own truck fleet, which is also expected to improve sales of biomethane and encourage natural gas/biogas mobility in Germany.
The European Union aims to get 10 percent of transportation fuel from renewable sources by 2020 to cut fossil-fuel imports and curb pollution.
