One of the main objectives of the project is that a city council of about 100,000 and 200,000 inhabitants may fuel two bus lines with their own waste and environmentally-friendly, as reported by newspaper FarodeVigo.com.
After preliminary studies, the researchers have already made contact with different public entities, which would provide the funding, for a possible implementation. Metropolitan areas with a wastewater treatment plant such as Vigo’s, whose organic sludge could supply the urban transport, are part of the group of potential users.
“We are confident that the technology works and that will have environmental and cost benefits, but we need business and political willingness to start,” said EnergyLab’s members Mario Iglesias and Carlos Gutiérrez. They also added: “There are all kinds of applications. One possibility would be fuelling your vehicles with your own waste.”
