What makes this year’s event different to previous years, apart from being our first under our new NGV Global trading name, is that it is also our first in a relatively new market. Mexico currently has less than 5,000 natural gas vehicles on the road but indications are that will change dramatically in the coming years.
Mexico – Opportunities Big and Small
With an abundance of natural gas available, and chronic air quality problems affecting Mexico’s citizens, the appetite for natural gas vehicles in Mexico is strong. Mexico City alone has more than 110,000 taxis, most of which are viable candidates for operations on natural gas.
Unlike most other Latin American markets though, Mexico also looks set to include heavy-duty vehicles in its first wave of natural gas vehicles.
Hyundai Truck and Bus, a major sponsor of NGV Global 2012, have committed to only supply CNG buses to the Mexican market. And at a recent national freight forum, major truck manufacturers including Navistar, MAN, Kenworth, Freightliner, Volvo, Hyundai, Foton, Hino and Isuzu, reportedly voiced an interest in and intention to introduce NGV product to Mexico.
Local gas companies are also voicing a strong commitment to establish CNG refuelling infrastructure to service demand.
NGV Global 2012 – Perfect timing and perfect location
NGV Global 2012 will bring local and international stakeholders together to progress local market development, discuss trends in technology and policy and to exchange success stories from around the globe.
With the established markets of Latin America to the south and the rapidly growing US and Canadian markets to the north, Mexico City is ideally placed for a vibrant and progressive gathering of the international NGV industry.
Confirmed speakers already include representatives from the United Nations (Geneva), International Maritime Organisation (UK), Westport Innovations (Canada), Hyundai Truck and Bus (Mexico), Clean Air Power (USA), Dina Cummins (Mexico), Volvo Trucks (Sweden), Honda R&D (Japan), Gas Natural Fenosa (Mexico), VTT (Finland) and Gazo (Mexico), with more to be announced soon.
The timing and location could not be more perfect and we invite you to be a part of this exciting event. Registrations will open and a preliminary program will be released within the next few weeks but we encourage you to mark your calendars now and visit the www.ngv2012.com website for more details.
